This October morning began in the chilly dark hours with high hopes of morning gold. As light began to reveal the weather, we were greeted with stormy skies with no shot of any sunrise images. We decided to head out along the Snake River to see if our luck would change later in the morning. As we neared the end of the high ground overlook, we noticed a bit of sun illuminating the far end of the peaks. After a brief chat we decided to set up and see if the sun would eventually move towards the highest peak of the Tetons, known as "The Grand." Thirty minutes later and we were in awe of what was unfolding before us as the sun shown through the clouds directly over the peak, while another burst of rays illuminated the fall colors of the vibrant orange and yellow cottonwoods along the Snake River.

This dramatic photograph captures the Grand Tetons shrouded in stormy weather, with a captivating contrast of light and shadow. Amidst the swirling tempest, a striking opening in the clouds bathes the tallest snow-covered peak in a brilliant, ethereal glow.
